Evil diet sodas
At last it’s hitting the airwaves. ABC news in the states recently aired this story on diet drinks addressing just a couple of health issues associated with these hazards.
The addictive nature of their high caffeine content has been known to health professionals for some time while the acidic pH of ALL soft drinks erodes bones increasing the risks of osteoporosis.
And that’s not all. Check out what MedicineNet have to say about the artificial sweeteners used as sugar replacements in these drinks. Documented side effects include headaches, nausea, rashes and chest pains. Neural damage and even some cancers have also been linked with sugar substitutes.
And to top it all off they probably don’t even reduce weight. Research indicates that they may indirectly increase weight by exacerbating sugar cravings making us eat more. At the end of the day- if you’re trying to lose weight there’s no substitute for a complete diet and lifestyle approach but if you really want a soda you’d be better off having the original.
