Edible food like substances
Good common sense is all too rare when it comes to advice about what to eat but take the time to read this New York Times article about how food has been redefined as nutrition, turned into an industry and most of that common sense removed in the interests of profit. This can be seen by just looking at our supermarket shelves, and more importantly the results- the people around us, doctors surgeries and hospitals.
The Hundred Year Lie by Randolf Fitzgerald notes that man-made chemicals, which are components of our “edible food like substances” and form the majority of “nutritional” supplements have overtaken bacteria and viruses as the main killers of ourselves and other life which shares our planet. These chemicals include isolated synthetic “nutrients”- vitamins, minerals and antioxidants which are added to processed foods in order to con us into believing they are healthy. Largely derived from petrochemical residues they are poisons. A good rule for healthy eating would be to avoid “foods” which make any health giving claims for a start.
Whole, organic and ideally raw foods are what we have evolved to thrive on. Their complex interaction of natural compounds far surpasses anything which can be synthesized in a lab test tube. For the healthiest foods in your supermarket, head straight for the produce section. Or better still, visit your local farmers market. You won’t find any health claims. The truth speaks for itself.
