Pre-Natal Belly Dancing
Bellydancing has been used for fertility and birthing since the dawn of time. So when I got pregnant, I asked my instructor Keti Sherif about continuing dancing.
With similar benefits to yoga, bellydancing is a great pre-natal exercise, according to one of her articles. It strengthens the pelvic muscles used in delivery, relaxes the hips, keeps the body supple, connects the mother with the unborn child by focusing on the belly, helps with posture and promotes good breathing. And it really helps get rid of back pain - something most pregnant women suffer at some point during their pregnancy.
While many Middle Eastern women advise against shimmies, flowing figure eights, hip circles and arm work can all provide a good workout that will keep you in shape throughout your pregnancy, help you get back into shape after pregnancy and are just plain fun!
